Jerry A. and Bonnie P. Hatchett started Hatchett & Hatchett Trucking Co., Inc.  in March of 1982 with a cousin, Bobby Hatchett and his wife, Linda.  They ran the business out of a back room in Jerry and Bonnie’s home.

Jerry and Bonnie have been married since 1973.  They’ve raised three wonderful sons, Robert, Chris and John.

Robert has a Mechanical Engineering Degree from VA Tech and  is currently working as a Mechanical Engineer in Martinsville and has been married to his wife Monica since 1995.  They are the proud parents of William Tate and Anna Elizabeth.

Chris has a business degree from Patrick Henry Community College and has been promoted to Vice President of Hatchett Transportation Inc. effective November 1, 2010. Chris will also serve as Operations Manager. Chris has been married to his wife Angela since 2002.Chris & Angela are the proud parents of Timothy Wayne Hatchett and Christopher Dean Hatchett and Carolyn Gail Hatchett.

John Henry got married July 2010 to Susan Price of Princeton, WV and live in a home across from the trucking company. John has a master's degree in Mechanical Engineering from VA Tech. John is teaching advanced placement Calculus at Bassett High School in Bassett, VA. Susan also works for Hatchett Transportation Inc. part time as a billing and filing clerk. John and Susan live next door to the trucking company and provide added security at nights and weekends when the office is closed.  

After just a few years, Bobby and Linda retired from trucking, leaving Jerry and Bonnie as the sole owners.

We started with 2 trucks, which were leased to Arthur H. Fulton, and then to D.S.S. Inc. In March 1984, we went out on our own and soon had several good customers.

We continued to expand and more drivers and office personnel were added.  A year after we began, we moved into an office and garage in Martinsville, VA. The business grew faster than we anticipated, necessitating a move to larger facilities in Bassett, VA, a move that was made in 1985.

In 1985 we started H & H Truck Brokers, Inc., which complimented Hatchett & Hatchett Trucking.  In 1998, we merged both Hatchett & Hatchett Trucking, and H & H Truck Brokers, and renamed the company Hatchett Transportation, Inc.

Today we have grown to 21 company trucks and 40 (53' air-ride) trailers which were all Great Dane trailers until November when we replaced some of our older trailers with 12 new 2011 VS2DX Utility air-ride (53 foot vans) our oldest trailers in the fleet today are 2005 trailers and the average age of our trailers today is less than (3) three  years old Our customer base has grown with us, and our goal is to continue to improve our good service to our customers, and to provide a good living for our drivers and employees.
